We're Hiring!

Much like our business itself, this role is a magical unicorn!

We're looking for someone who wants to become our next BALLOON ARTIST, with a decent chunk of retail costume customer service thrown in.  Below you'll find details on the following:

  1. The Role Itself
  2. Why It's Available
  3. What We're Looking For
  4. How to Apply

1. Job Role

  • Title:     Balloon Artist + Retail Assistant

  • Type:    Casual, moving to Permanent Part Time after initial trial period

  • Hours:   22 Hrs per week: Thurs 11-8 / Fri 11-6 / Sat 10-4  Hours may vary slightly especially on Saturdays, based on pre-booked balloon delivery installation requirements.

Note:  the job will initially be firmly focused on balloons, particularly if you have no prior experience.  Once sufficiently skilled up in this area, we'll introduce you to retail customer service.

2.  Why It's Available

We've recently relocated to the main shopping strip of Willoughby Road, Crows Nest & our foot traffic, particularly for balloons, has increased dramatically.  Our owner is currently the sole Balloon Artist in the business & she needs to free up more time to work on, rather than in, the business, to drive future growth.

We're also looking to bring someone onboard who we can work with to develop more balloon decor expertise (arches, structures etc.) during downtime instore, so as we can confidently expand our service offering beyond bouquets & basic decor, into this segment of the balloon market.

3.  What We're Looking For

  • Balloon experience will be super highly regarded, but it's not essential.  In our experience, your attitude, aptitude & willingness to learn are the most important factors.
  • A bright, engaging personality with a genuine love for people, who gets a kick out of delivering stellar customer service.  It's something we're known for at Fancy That!
  • A self-directed learner.  Whilst Thurs/Fri/Sat are generally the busiest days of the week, there will be downtime in between balloon jobs & customer walk-ins.  This is where you can be working through balloon trainings & practicing build techniques to hone your skills.
  • Creativity AND organisation - they're not mutually exclusive (!)  When balloons are really pumping, you need to be able to keep track of multiple jobs, deadlines & customer walk-ins.
  • Someone who can see themselves sticking with us for at least 2-3 years.  There's a lot of training involved & we want to make it count.
  • Open to all ages & genders.
  • Would ideally suit someone who has either a hybrid work life  (eg. works part-time or for themselves on the balance of days), or has an actual life on the other days (!) & is looking to do something creative, stimulating & fun with a fab small team on a part-time basis.

4.  How to Apply

  • Shoot your resume through to belinda.marsh@fancythatcostumes.com.au by Friday May 3rd
  • We'll be having an initial group orientation onsite at Fancy That! Costumes & Balloons in Crows Nest on Saturday May 10 between 9 & 10am (store opens 10am), where you can meet & greet, check out the store & ask any initial questions.
  • Next step is one-on-one interviews with people we feel may be a good fit.
